Odisha’s manganese ore production in FY17 reached just under 0.5 MnT, up 31% from FY16.
Odisha contributes to about 30% of Manganese Ore production in India. The major producers are Tata Steel, OM & M and Rungta Mines.
In FY17, Odhisha exhibited a substantial increase of 31% in its manganese ore production, totaling to 0.49 MnT against 0.38 MnT in FY16.
In FY17 the market witnessed a scarcity of imported manganese ore supplies to India, prompting the domestic producers to increase their production. Moreover, demand for domestically procured Manganese Ore was also good in FY17 .
Among the various miners, O.M.&M.Ltd. registered a mammoth increase of 1196% in its manganese ore production, influencing the total production in FY17 significantly. On the other hand, Tata Steels being the largest producer witnessed a marginal decrease of 5% in its production. A.M.T.C. also produced 0.04 MnT in FY17 against no production in FY16. Rungta Mines also witnessed a substantial decrease of 28% in its manganese ore production in FY17.
In FY16 output was hampered due to mining restrictions imposed on few of the mines in Odisha and Karnataka.
