Odisha – India’s largest iron ore producing state recorded production of 6.05 mn t in Aug’20, down 7%, as against 6.53 mn t in July’20, according to the provisional data of the Odisha Govt. maintained by SteelMint. The figures include the type of material – fines, lump, and concentrate.
- Tata Steel stood the largest iron ore producer for the month of Aug’20 at 1.40 mn t, down 8% on a monthly basis followed by SAIL at 0.91 mn t.
- JSW Steel recorded iron ore production of 0.88 mn t, down 18% on a monthly basis.
- Sarda mines increased production by 21% in Aug’20 to 0.72 mn t. As per recent update, Sarda Mines says the High Court of Delhi has granted a stay against any notice asking the miner to stop work at Thakurani. The Ministry of Environment,Forest and Climate Change had written to officials in Odisha on 21st Sep’20 seeking an immediate halt to mining on grounds that Sarda Mines’ EC was invalid.
- AM/NS India began iron ore production from its mine block it won in auctions and recorded output of 0.21mn t in Aug down marginally on a monthly basis.
- OMC output was recorded at 0.1 mn t, a significant drop of 24% as compared to 0.13 mn t in July’20. However, with resumption in production from its Gandhamardhan B block and commencement of operations at Tiring Pahar, production volumes are likely to pick up in the coming months.
SteelMint has learned that Serajjudin which retained the 15.5 mnt capacity Balda iron ore mine and Debabrata Behera who bagged the Silijora-Kalimati iron ore and manganese mine have assured the state that they would be starting work soon. Resumption of mining operations may ease out tight availability to some extent.
