Iron ore dispatches from Odisha’s merchant mines have fallen for the 3rd consecutive month in Oct’17. Unavailability of sufficient railway rakes has resulted in fall in dispatch volumes.
Odisha – India’s largest iron ore producing state accounts for nearly 50% of country’s ore production. Iron ore dispatch of merchant miners in Odisha has moved down by 8% M-o-M in Oct’17.
State based merchant miners supplied 5.39 MnT iron ore in Oct’17 in domestic market compared to 5.89 MnT in Sept’17. It was also down by 12% Y-o-Y in Oct’17 compared to Oct’17 which was 6.11 MnT then. The figures exclude movement for export and dispatches of captive miners – SAIL & Tata Steel.
Less availability of rake for transport of iron ore from the resource rich state of Odisha is severely hitting supplies of the key steel making raw material.
Among Odisha’s merchant iron ore miners – Rungta Mines dispatched highest quantity of ore 1.44 MnT followed by KJS Ahluwalia 0.67 MnT and Serajuddin 0.63 MnT.
Rungta Mines’ iron ore dispatches decreased by 12 % M-o-M to 1.44 MnT in Oct’17 compared to 1.64 MnT in Sept’17.
KJS Ahluwalia iron ore dispatches decreased by 6% M-o-M to 0.67 MnT in Oct’17 compared to 0.71 MnT in Sept’17. Serajuddin Mines dispatched 0.63 MnT iron ore in Oct’17 compared to 0.69 MnT in Sept’17,down by 9% M-o-M.
Iron ore dispatches of state owned miner – OMC’s iron ore dispatches were down by 20% to 0.41 MnT in Oct’17 against 0.52 MnT in Sept’17.

In the first seven month of FY’18 iron ore dispatches from Odisha mines has increased by 17% to 40.87 MnT compared to 34.99 MnT last year same period.
