India: Odisha iron ore dispatches down 8% m-o-m in Nov’20

Odisha- India’s largest iron ore producing state recorded total merchant iron ore dispatches at 6.13 mn t in Nov’20, down 8% against 6.64 mn t in Oct’20. The figures exclude movement for export and dispatches of miners- SAIL, JSW (Gonua & Narayanposhi) & Tata Steel.

Key highlights

  • Sarda Mines recorded highest dispatches at 1.34 mn t for the month against 0.84 mn t in Oct’20.
  • OMC, state-owned miner, recorded a rise in dispatches to 1.22 mn t for Nov’20 as against 0.70 mn t in the last month (Oct’20). Miner’s production from Gandhamardhan mines have witnessed an increase in addition to volumes from Tiringpahar.
  • Dispatches of iron ore from Rungta Mines fell by 29% to 0.83 mn t in Nov’20, as compared to 1.16 mn t in Oct’20.
  • JSW Steel’s dispatches stood at 0.81 mn t, up 30% m-o-m with new mines (Jajang and Nuagaon).

Outlook: Odisha may entrust at least three iron deposits it auctioned unsuccessfully last year to state -owned PSUs Odisha Mining Corporation and the state’s newer exploration agency Odisha Mineral Exploration Corporation. This may boost iron ore supplies in the state in the next quarter.
