Odisha government has collected INR 4.73 billion as stamp duty because lease deeds have been signed for 19 mines.
The government of Odisha has so far collected INR 4.73 billion as stamp duty from miners because lease deeds (agreements) of 19 mining lease, including 6 captive mines of Tata Steel have been executed. All the 6 Tata’s mines and 7 merchant mines (out of 13) have registered the supplementary lease with the respective district collectors.
The state aims to collect about INR 10 billion revenue as stamp duty from the miners, who have been cleared for lease extension, as per the MMDR act, 2015. The 6 Tata’s mines are Joda East, Joda West, Manmora, Khandbandh, Tiringpahar and Bamebari.
The state government, while considering the recommendations of inter-departmental committee, had allowed reopening of 29 mines including 26, which had remained closed following the Supreme Court’s verdict in May’14. Of these, 25 are Iron & Manganese ore mines. The mines will be reopened as per the provisions of the new Mines & Mineral (Development & Regulation) Act, 2015. The act has allowed operation of the non-captive mines till 2020 and captive mines till 2030 under sections 8(A) 5 and 8(A) 6.
