The country’s largest power producer – NTPC Ltd along with its group companies, has recorded a net power generation of 305.9 Billion Units (BU) in FY19, which was 4% higher on the year from 294.27 BU in FY18.
On standalone basis, gross generation of NTPC for FY19 was 274.45 BU as against 265.80 Billion units in the previous year thereby registering an increase of 3.26%. For Q4 FY19, NTPC generated 69.20 BU as against 68.56 Billion Units generated in Q4 FY18.
NTPC’s coal stations had achieved PLF of 76.68% during FY19, apparently falling to its lowest total in past 5 fiscals. However, the PLF was well above the national average PLF of 61.07% recorded for thermal plants.
There was a massive jump in NTPC’s imported coal intake which had witnessed a 3-fold increase to 1.05 MnT in FY19, against 0.32 MnT in FY18. Domestic coal sourcing was up 4% Y-o-Y to 175.05 MnT in FY19 against 168.21 MnT in FY18.
NTPC had stated that its installed capacity had reached 55126 MW by the end of FY19. The company had started operations of one 800 MW unit at Gadarwara, 660 MW unit at Solapur, 250 MW units each at Bongaigaon and BRBCL, and two 110 MW units at Barauni in the FY19. However, it was accompanied by the decommissioning of 705 MW power station at Badarpur.
Financial Results:
NTPC had posted significant growth in terms of profit earned during FY19.
On consolidated basis, the total income was INR 97,537.34 Crore in FY19 as against INR 89,641.59 Crore during previous year, registering an increase of 8.81%. During the year, Profit after tax rose 20.3% Y-o-Y to INR 12,633.45 Crore as compared to INR 10,501.50 Crore in the previous year.
On Standalone basis, for FY19, the total income was INR 92,179.56 Crore as against INR 85,207.95 Crore during previous year, registering an increase of 8.18%. Profit after tax for FY19 was INR 11,749.89 Crore in FY19, up 13.6% Y-o-Y from INR 10,343.17 Crore in the previous year.
During the fourth quarter of FY19 (Jan’19-Mar’19), NTPC’s standalone profit after tax grew by a whopping 48% Y-o-Y to INR 4360.32 Crore, mainly on the back of lower expenses. However, total income had also slipped to INR 22,545.61 Crore in the March quarter from INR 23,617.83 Crore year ago.
