India: NTPC tenders for long-term purchase of Imported Coal

India’s largest power producer, NTPC has invited bids for long-term supply of imported coal to Pudimadaka Super Thermal Power Project, Vishakhapatnam.

The 4,000 MW power project, comprising 5 units of 800 MW, based on Steam coal origin has been another consideration for NTPC, which will likely to come into operation during FY 19. Estimated annual coal requirement for this plant is about 14 MnT pa.

Scope of Work

Coal shall be supplied on CIF basis from the coal mines across the globe through suitable vessels such as Panamex, Capesize etc matching with unloading facility at discharging port. Vessels will be unloaded or discharged by NTPC.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Bidders can be company/firm having operating mines or green field mines outside India or company/firm entered into MOU with extractable coal reserves of about 300 MnT
  • Bidder shall furnish complete details regarding each mines, location, ownership, present production schedule (in case of operating coal mines), tentative date for commencement of coal production (in case of green field coal mines) and production plan for coming 20 years
  • Bidder should have imported/exported the material and supplied a minimum of 3.5 MnT any dry bulk (solid) commodities like coal, Iron ore, fertilizers, chemicals, cement etc of origin other than India to any firm during the past 3 years
  • Average annual turnover of the bidder in the preceding 3 financial years should not be less than INR 13.08 billion
