India: NMDC’s iron ore sales down 13% in Feb’21

India’s largest iron ore producer – NMDC’s total iron ore sales for the month of Feb’21 was recorded at 3.25 mn t, down by 13% against 3.74 mn t in Jan’21. On a yearly basis, sales picked up by 12% compared to 2.91 mn t in Feb’20

Chhattisgarh mines contributed 2.62 mn t for the month (down 14% m-o-m) while Karnataka mines contributed 0.63 mn t (down 9% on monthly basis).

NMDC had reduced iron ore prices for Feb’21 on the back of a decline in semi-finished prices seen in Jan’21. The prices of Baila lump and fines were reduced by INR 600/t ($8) and that of DR-CLO by INR 700/t ($10).The miner slashed prices after a gap of nine months due to decline in steel prices seen in Jan’21.

The total iron ore sales for FY’21 (Apr-Feb) stands at 29.15 mn t, as compared to 28.9 mn t in FY’20 (Apr-Feb).

Iron ore production stable in Feb’21

NMDC iron ore production stood stable on a monthly basis at 3.86 mn t for Feb’21. Output picked 19% on a yearly basis compared to 3.24 mn t in Feb’20.

The total iron ore production for FY’21 (Apr-Feb) stands at 29.52 mn t, as compared to 29.12 mn t in FY’20 (Apr-Feb).Production volumes are expected to improve with resumption of operations at its Donimalai mines
