India: NMDC Iron Ore Production Surge 38% in Oct’18

NMDC – India’s largest iron ore miner has observed sharp rise in production & sales volumes in Oct’18. The total production witnessed at 3.26 MnT, up 38% as against 2.36 MnT in Sep’18. Out of the total 3.26 MnT, Bailadila mines contributed 66% of production at 2.14 MnT (up 61% M-o-M) while remaining contributed by Karnataka mines at 1.12 MnT (up 9% M-o-M).

On yearly premises, NMDC iron ore production recorded 26% rise as against 2.58 MnT in Oct’17.

For FY19 (Apr-Oct’18) total production recorded at 15.47 MnT, drop of 15% as compared to 18.23 MnT in FY18 (Apr-Oct’17).

NMDC’s Karnataka iron ore production volumes likely to fall 

According to sources reports, iron ore operations are still on hold at NMDC’s Donimalai mine which was recently renewed. On 3rd Nov’18 NMDC lease got expired and was later renewed for the next 20 years.

State govt has asked NMDC to pay 80% premium on iron ore sale value from Donimalai to the Karnataka state Govt. NMDC India’s biggest iron ore mine has been on the negotiation with the Govt of Karnataka over its decision to impose an 80% premium on iron ore sales from Donimalai as the company’s earlier license did not include the premium, as per reports.

NMDC (National Mineral Development Corporation) is India’s largest iron ore miner with annual production of around 35.5 MnT p.a. in FY18. Out of this, 12 MnT was produced from NMDC’s mine in Karnataka, combining from Donimalai and Kumaraswamy.

NMDC Donimalai has EC limit of 7 MnT p.a. and produces around 6-6.5 MnT iron ore annually.
