India: NMDC (C.G.) iron ore rake movement to state-based units down 19% in Jul’20

NMDC’s iron ore rake movement from its Chhattisgarh mines to state-based steel units has moved down 19% to 42 rakes (0.17 mn t) in Jul’20 as against being 52 rakes (0.20 mn t) a month ago, as per railway movement data maintained with SteelMint. Dispatches fell due to suspension of dispatches from Line 7 & Line 8 at KK line in Jagdalpur, as per sources.

NMDC Ltd, India’s largest iron ore producer, has increased prices by 8-9% further for this month.

NMDC has supplied a total of 272 rakes (1.05 mn t) of iron ore in the month of Jul’20, down 3% against 281 rakes (1.08 mn t) a month before in Jun’20, according to railway movement data maintained with SteelMint.

NMDC’s supplies to outside state-based units up marginally in Jul 20:

The procurement by outside C.G based units picked up for the month by 1% in Jul’20 to 201 rakes (about 0.77 mn t), against 199 rakes a month ago. JSW Steel (Dolvi) sourcing from NMDC decreased by 72% to 39 rakes in Jul’20 against 67 rakes in Jun’20. Steelmaker has recently started iron ore sourcing from its mines in Odisha it won in auctions.

However, RINL’s procurement from NMDC Bailadila mines increased significantly on a monthly basis to 102 rakes as compared to Jun’20 procurement at 63 rakes. It restarted the first of its two closed blast furnaces (BFs) on 17th Jul’20. With the full ramp-up of the second BF, RINL’s hot metal production can now touch on average 13,000-14,000 t per day, going forward.

KIOCL’s iron ore sourcing from NMDC (C.G) was at 48 rakes in Jul’20, against 51 rakes in Jun’20.

Movement for exports was down slightly to 29 rakes in Jul’20 against 30 rakes in Jun’20.
