The vessel-line up data (as on 1 Sep’20) maintained with CoalMint reveals that a total quantity of 3.38 mn t of thermal coal is coming into India in the next 20-22 days.
—The highest quantity of 0.50 mn t is set to arrive at Navlakhi port with all the quantity coming from Indonesia (last month during similar time frame Krishnapatnam had received highest quantity of 0.55 mn t thermal coal).
—Party-wise, Agarwal Coal and Adani Power are the two players having highest quantity of vessels at 0.22 mn t and 0.11 mn t respectively coming at Navlakhi (by 22 Sep’20).
—Gangavaram port is the next highest receiver of thermal coal at 0.43 mn t with Adani Enterprise the top receiver at 0.16 mn t coming from South Africa.
Highest quantity of coal coming from Indonesia
—Out of the total quantity of 3.38 mn t thermal coal vessel coming in, highest quantity is coming from Indonesia at 1.70 mn t followed by South Africa at 1.23 mn t.
—This is followed by Australia at 0.17 mn t, Mozambique at 0.15 mn t and U.S. at 0.04 mn t.
Adani Enterprise tops the list of coal buyers
—Adani Enterprise tops the list with 0.58 mn t of thermal coal expected to arrive at Indian ports with majority coming from South Africa (0.33 mn t) followed by Indonesia at 0.17 mn t.
—This is followed by Swiss Singapore with 0.31 mn t of thermal coal coming from South Africa and Agarwal Coal at 0.27 mn t coming from Indonesia.
Outlook: CoalMint Analysis
CoalMint learned from market participants that with increase in sponge iron prices in India and South32 announcing production cut at one of its mines catering to export market, the thermal coal buyers in India have increased their import bookings for South African coal. In fact, the September month’s API index for South African thermal coal has also risen up amid the ongoing market sentiments.
