Indian truckers strike has been come to an end after a week with after Govt. nod to consider transporter’s issue. Earlier yesterday (27th Ju’18) Transporter association met Union Ministry Nitin Gadkari with their demands.
Govt. of India has detailed discussion with the All India motor transport congress (AIMTC) yesterday and agreed to set up a high-level committee under the chairmanship of secretary, Ministry of Road, Transport, and Highways to smoothly expedite the demands of the transporter.
The strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress affected about 90 lakh goods carriers. They were demanding mainly over a reduction in diesel prices, rationalization of toll and taxes and relaxation of third-party insurance etc. Semi-finished and finished steel movement in many major markets were hampered in last one week resulting in increased inventories.
Govt of India and the representatives of the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has agreed on many pointers out of which following are the prominent ones:
1. Ease of toll collections: The government will put in place a mechanism within six months to ensure seamless movement of transport vehicles across toll plazas with the help of technology.
2. Third Party Insurance: On the request of govt. IRDAI has agreed to discuss the demand to review premium for 3rd party insurance for heavy vehicles.
