India: Ministry of Railways grants waiver of demurrage, and wharfage charges

Ministry of Railway (Govt of India) has released circular recently on 5ht May to all the railway zones for the waiver of demurrage and wharfage charges due to the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. Several state Governments have imposed lock-down therefore few announcements have been done by railway to mitigate the customer issues.

  • Full power for waiver of Demurrage and Wharfage have already been granted to zonal Railways. In order to provide relief to the customers in case of handling goods traffic.
  • Decisions on waiver of Demurrage and Wharfage may be taken based upon local conditions prevailing regarding lockdown, either full or partial, and the extent to which it affects detention of rakes or occupation of wharfs.
