India: Mill scale prices rise in Kandla, Jalna but fall in Raipur

  • Export demand supports Kandla prices
  • Buying remains weak across Raipur, Jalna

Indian mill scale prices showed mixed trends across key markets in the week ended 14 October 2026, with prices rising in Kandla and Jalna while declining in Raipur. Trading activity remained subdued overall as buyers refrained from bulk purchases amid fluctuating market sentiment and expectations of price corrections.

BigMint’s Fe 69% mill scale assessment for Kandla increased by INR 200/t ($2/t) to INR 7,700/t ($81/t) DAP Kandla, while Raipur prices declined by INR 100/t ($1/t) to INR 7,400/t ($78/t) ex-works against the last assessment held on 10 October 2026. Meanwhile, Jalna prices edged up by INR 100/t ($1/t) to INR 6,450/t ($68/t) ex-works against the last assessment held on 7 October 2026.

Kandla: Export demand lifts prices

Mill scale prices increased amid export-related demand, with shipments scheduled during the week prompting exporters to raise their buying prices. Around 500 t of deals were reported at INR 7,800/t ($82/t) DAP Kandla. However, domestic market sentiment remained largely stable, with local buyers adopting a cautious approach and expecting prices to ease after the completion of scheduled shipments.

Raipur: Weak buying pressures prices

Mill scale prices declined amid resistance from buyers, who considered prevailing rates unviable for resale in outside markets. Several external buyers have reportedly stayed away from fresh purchases, limiting procurement by local traders. A market participant said that recent price increases were driven by purchases at higher levels for a buyer linked to Visakhapatnam, but added that the prevailing rates were unsustainable and could correct significantly. Around 1,300 t of deals were recorded at INR 7,300-7,550/t ($77-79/t) ex-works Raipur.

Jalna: Cautious buying limits trades

Mill scale prices edged up marginally, although overall trading activity remained sluggish. Major mills have yet to resume significant fresh procurement, while sellers remained reluctant to lower their offers. Buyers continued to adopt a wait-and-watch approach, anticipating a possible price correction before making fresh purchases. Around 650 t of deals were recorded at INR 6,400-6,550/t ($67-69/t) ex-works Jalna.
