India: Melting scrap prices rise by up to INR 700/t ($9)

Melting scrap prices today increased in all scrap markets owing to –

  • Increasing substitute (sponge iron) prices supported by iron ore prices.
  • Adequate semi-finished transactions and improved future bookings.
  • Disturbed logistics amid lockdown.
  • Improvement in global scrap prices leading to rise in domestic offers.

Near term prices are expected to inch up, reliable trade sources reported to SteelMint.
