India: Melting scrap prices rise across markets

Melting scrap prices rose by around INR 600/t in Punjab, north India on 2 Feb’22. In other markets, too, prices increased by INR 100-300/t following the rise in sponge iron prices backed by high coal prices, which has pushed up semi-finished and finished steel prices despite moderate trades. Prices in the short run are expected to remain rangebound, trader sources informed.
