- MCL offers 3.11 mnt across G7-G14 grades
- WCL offers 337,500 t across multiple grades
Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. (MCL) and Western Coalfields Ltd. (WCL) have scheduled separate e-auctions in August 2026, offering 3.11 million tonnes (mnt) and 337,500 tonnes, respectively. MCL’s second Single Window Mode Agnostic e-auction of August is scheduled for 20 August, while WCL’s third and fourth events are scheduled for 21 August. The two auctions feature distinct grade and source mixes, providing buyers with separate procurement opportunities during the monsoon.
MCL offers 3.11 mnt across G7-G14
MCL’s second August auction offers 3.10925 mnt of coal through road and rail modes. The offering is concentrated in G14, followed by G13, G12 and G11, while smaller quantities of higher-grade coal and washery rejects are also included.
G14 is the dominant component, with large offerings from LBL Int, Samleswari, Hingula and Garjanbahal. G13 is led by Lajkura and Kulda, while G12 includes sizeable lots from Ananta and Bhubaneswari. MCL is also offering 200,000 t of IB Valley washery rejects, with GCV of 1,500-1,899 kcal/kg.
The auction is scheduled for 20 August 2026 and will be conducted through MJunction. The notice states that coal will be offered through both road and rail modes.
WCL offers 337,500 t across grades
WCL has scheduled its third and fourth CIL e-Auction Scheme 2022 events for 21 August 2026, with MSTC as the service provider. The combined offering is 337,500 t.

WCL’s offering is comparatively smaller and more diversified across grades and sources. The auction includes sizeable G11 and G10 volumes, alongside G9, G8 and G7 material and mixed-grade lots. The notice puts the total offer at 337,500 t.
The auction will be conducted by MSTC on 21 August, with the detailed offerings specified separately in the third- and fourth-event annexures.
Different sourcing opportunities for buyers
MCL’s auction provides a much larger pool of G14-G12 coal, with several large mine-specific lots and 200,000 t of washery rejects. WCL’s offering is smaller but provides a broader mix of G11-G7 and mixed-grade material, including several higher-priced sources.
The separate auction structures could give buyers different procurement options depending on grade requirements, mine preference and logistics. The bidding response will also provide an indication of buyer appetite for different grades during the monsoon period.
