Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), India’s largest car seller, has reported 17.1% (y-o-y) growth in its August sales at 124,624 against 106,413 units in Aug’19. The company has reported 15.3% growth m-o-m as compared to 108,064 units in Jul’20.
Total domestic sales in Aug’20 rose to 115,325 units and 1,379 units for other OEMs, marking a growth of 21.7% compared to corresponding month last year.
In addition, the company exported 7,920 units in Aug’20, resulting a drop of 15.3% over Aug’19.
However, in the April-August period, the company’s cumulative sales has dropped by 50% to 309,287 units, against 618,271 units in the corresponding period in FY20. The domestic sales in the 5 month-period has dropped by 50% to 285,038 units against 571,548 units in the corresponding 5 months in FY20. Exports have also dropped by 48% to 24,249 units.
The Company remains committed to the health, safety and well-being of all members across the value chain. Production across plants is being progressively increased consistent with maximum efforts to ensure safety and subject to the availability of employees.
The Indian automobile sector has witnessed strong sentiments from rural and semi-urban markets and rise in preference for personal mobility on the back of gradual normalization in the supply chain. Maruti is ramping up its supply chain to build inventory at dealerships as it expects demand to sustain and get stronger as the festive season approaches. The company is also hoping to get a major support as soon at its new plant in Gujarat gets operational by early next year.
