India: Manganese Ore Imports Falls Significantly in May’18

According to the Indian customs, the country witnessed a fall of 32% M-o-M in its Manganese Ore imports in May’18.

India imported 0.19 MnT Manganese Ore in May’18 against 0.28 MnT in Apr’18, witnessing a decrease of 32% M-o-M. Moreover, on yearly basis, Indian imports sees a substantial decrease of 30% Y-o-Y as it imported 0.27 MnT in May’17.

Demand for Manganese Ore in India was sluggish on the back of poor performance manganese alloys market. The buyers in India were also reluctant to import larger quantities on account of the depreciating Rupee during the period. Moreover, the Manganese Ore market was finding it difficult to sustain at its price levels during May.

South Africa remains the largest Manganese Ore exporter to India at 0.15 MnT in May’18 recording a decrease of 12% M-o-M against 0.17 MnT in Apr’18. Australia, being the second largest exporter of the ore to India also witnessed fall of 33% M-o-M in its exports followed by Cote D Ivoire and Brazil which exported 0.01 MnT each.

Vishakhapatnam port recorded the largest imports of the ore at 0.11 MnT followed by Kolkata with 0.07 MnT.
