- Prices raised due to comparable offers from competitors
- Trade-level tags up INR 2,200/t in Apr despite weak demand
A major Indian ERW pipe manufacturer, specialising in hot-rolled coil (HRC) based products, has increased list prices of its base-grade pipes (25-125 NB, 2.2-6 mm) by INR 1,000/tonne (t) ($12/t) for early-May 2025 sales, sources informed BigMint.
Post-revision, list prices stood at INR 61,000/t ($721/t) exw-Raipur, excluding 18% GST, in early May against INR 60,000/t ($709/t) in late April. The manufacturer also increased prices by INR 1,000/t ($12/t) m-o-m in Pune and Mumbai, to INR 62,000/t ($733/t) exw, exclusive of 18% GST, from INR 61,000/t ($721/t) earlier.
Prices were increased due to comparable offers from leading ERW pipe manufacturers.
Notably, distributor-level monthly average prices of ERW pipes in Raipur went up by INR 2,200/t ($26/t) to INR 59,700/t ($706/t) in April as compared to INR 57,500/t ($680/t) exy-Raipur in March. However, weak demand persisted amid tight liquidity.
The revised prices for Raipur, Pune, and Mumbai will be effective from 9 May 2025.
Trade-level HRC offers remain range-bound w-o-w
Trade-level HRC prices remained range-bound w-o-w at INR 52,000-53,700/t ($615-635/t) across markets. Cold-rolled coil (CRC) prices also stayed firm w-o-w at INR 56,500-61,000/t ($668-721/t). Participants were cautious, opting for need-based buying.
Outlook
ERW pipe prices are likely to be range-bound in the near term, supported by recent hikes from major producers and in alignment with the uptrend last month. However, sluggish demand may limit buying to immediate needs. Additionally, persistent tight liquidity due to credit sales and slow payments will likely prevent substantial price fluctuations.
