India: Major ERW pipe producer increases list prices for early-Apr’25 sales

  • Prices raised to match competitors’ offers
  • Distributor-level tags up INR 2,625/t m-o-m

A major Indian ERW pipe manufacturer, specialising in hot-rolled coil (HRC) based products, has increased list prices of its base-grade pipes (25-125 NB, 2.2-6 mm) by INR 1,000/tonne (t) ($11/t) for early-April 2025 sales, sources informed BigMint.

Post-revision, list prices stood at INR 60,000/t ($696/t) exw-Raipur, excluding 18% GST, in early April against INR 59,000/t ($684/t) in late March.

The manufacturer opted to raise its prices, citing comparable offers from major ERW pipe rivals.

The manufacturer also increased prices by INR 1,000/t ($11/t) m-o-m to INR 61,000/t ($707/t) exw, exclusive of 18% GST, in Pune and Mumbai from INR 60,000/t ($695/t) earlier.

Additionally, distributor-level monthly average prices of ERW pipes in Raipur went up by INR 2,625/t ($30/t) m-o-m to INR 56,375/t ($653/t) exy in March 2025 as compared to INR 53,750/t ($623/t) in February 2025.

The revised prices for Raipur, Pune, and Mumbai will be effective from 9 April 2025.

Trade-level HRC offers fall w-o-w

Trade-level HRC prices across India fell by up to INR 1,000/t ($11/t) w-o-w to INR 51,200-53,500/t ($593-620/t) across domestic markets. However, cold-rolled coil (CRC) prices remained stable w-o-w at INR 56,300-59,000/t ($652-684/t). Notably, limited demand and need-based buying weighed on prices.

Outlook

ERW pipe prices are likely to hold steady in the near term, supported by recent hikes from major producers in alignment with the market uptrend last month. However, the w-o-w decline in trade-level HRC prices indicates weak demand, which could restrict further upward revisions. Buying is expected to remain cautious and need-based unless end-user demand shows a stronger rebound.
