- Large cardamom prices hold near ₹2,000/kg as weak demand and comfortable supplies limit gains
- Monsoon remains key for crop prospects and price direction
India’s large cardamom market remains largely stable, with adequate supplies meeting weak domestic demand and limited export enquiries. Wholesale prices in Delhi were quoted near ₹2,000/kg in early June, while muted speculative activity has kept the market range-bound. With the monsoon underway, trade is now focused on rainfall distribution across key growing regions, which could influence crop expectations and the next price move.
Weak demand and comfortable supplies keep large cardamom prices range-bound
Supplies remain comfortable, with wholesalers buying mainly against confirmed orders and avoiding significant pre-monsoon stocks. Weak domestic demand, limited export enquiries and muted speculation continue to cap price movement.
Delhi prices were around ₹2,000/kg, while New Delhi export offers stood at EUR 25–28/kg FOB for 7-8 mm non-organic whole cardamom and EUR 17-24/kg for smaller and organic grades.
Monsoon rainfall to shape crop expectations and price direction
Market fundamentals remain balanced, with comfortable availability offsetting weak consumption. The monsoon is now the key factor, as June-July rainfall is crucial for flowering and fruit development across Sikkim, the eastern Himalayan belt and southern growing regions.
Weather conditions remain broadly supportive, with cloudy skies and intermittent showers expected in Sikkim and surrounding areas over the next three days, while Kerala and other southern belts are likely to receive steady rainfall. However, prolonged or uneven rainfall could affect crop development and production expectations.
Outlook
Large cardamom prices are expected to remain sideways in the near term as comfortable supplies and weak demand continue to balance the market. Monsoon performance will remain the key trigger, while stronger domestic or export demand could provide upside support.
