India: KIC Metaliks restarts mini blast furnace at Durgapur after 5-week shutdown

  • Monthly production of 22,000-25,000 t may improve regional supply
  • Increased availability could ease supply constraints, influence prices

KIC Metaliks Limited has restarted its Mini Blast Furnace (MBF) at its Durgapur plant in West Bengal on 15 October, 2026, following a shutdown that began on 10 September. The company disclosed the restart to BSE Limited under Regulation 30(6) of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015.

With operations resuming, the unit is expected to contribute around 22,000-25,000 t of pig iron production per month to the market, potentially improving regional supply and material availability for buyers.

The restart could gradually ease supply-side constraints and influence market sentiment. However, the actual impact on prices will depend on production ramp-up, dispatches, and prevailing demand conditions in the coming weeks.
