Karnataka proposes to ban exports of iron ore from ports in the State, till the ongoing probe into illegal mining by Lokayukta, the State ombudsman, is completed.
The Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr B.S Yeddyurappa said a Government order banning iron exports will be issued in a couple of days. Stating that the only way to curb illegal mining was to prevent exports, Mr Yeddyurappa said the State Government would go ahead with its decision to ban exports soon.
“Pending any final decision by the Central Government, I have requested the Centre to permit Karnataka to go ahead with the ban on export of iron ore from the state,” Mr Yeddyurappa said. He was speaking to reporters after attending the National Development Council .
