India: Karnataka Iron ore exporters may not resist the ban anymore

August 03,

Iron ore exporters in Karnataka may go against the ban by the end of this week if it continues to stay, said the head of a trade body.

Noor Ahmed, President of the Bellary-Hospet sector Iron Ore Mine Owners & Supplier’s Association, today said that the miners were on the verge of defaulting on various export contracts.

India had exported 110 million tonnes of Iron ore in the year that ended last March, mostly to China that houses the world’s largest Steel industry. Karnataka had contributed about 27 per cent of the exports.

Exporters in Bellary district of Karnataka say that they would raise their voice against the ban if nothing concrete on this issue is decided by Thursday.
