Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over the response of the Union Government to curb illegal mining and illegal export of Iron ore.

He said that the state Government expects more proactive response from the Centre in putting down illegal mining activities and export of the Iron ore from different parts of the country.

Mr Yeddyurappa said that the Union Government was fully aware of the illegal export of ore and had not acted to put an end to the menace.

He also said “They should come out with the figures of the total extent of the mining licenses and the exact amount of the Iron and other natural resources allowed to be mined in different States for the past several years and actual amount of the Iron ore and other natural resources mined… I am sure the actual amount of Iron ore and other natural resources mined is 100 times more than the permitted levels,”

Defending the action of the State Government to ban Iron ore export, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he had no other alternative but to impose the ban in the overall interest of the State. “We will permit mining as a value addition for the Steel industries and not exporting to other countries”.
