New Delhi — Integrated steel plants along with a host of plants from other sectors have been categorised as ‘continuous process industrial units’ which are exempt from the nation-wide lockdown in light of the Coronavirus pandemic, a copy of a circular dated April 3, 2020, shows.
“… they are exempted from the existing lockdown in order to prevent the damage to the plant / production machineries and to ensure industrial safety,” the circular said.
While this might be good news for the large integrated steel mills as it gives them the backing they need to use their workforce and keep up their production, the small and medium-sized enterprises, many of who supply intermediary products to the large integrated plants, will miss the benefit of keeping their mills running.
The circular spelled put the precautions the companies must take at the shop floor.
