India: Karnataka bans iron ore exports from its ports

Karnataka has banned export of iron ore from 10 ports in the state. The state has stopped issue of permits for movement of iron ore except for the captive purpose. The minor ports include –

 

Karwara

Old Managalore

Belikeri

 

Last week, the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa had said that the only way to curb illegal mining was to prevent exports. After the National Development Council meeting in Delhi, the Chief Minister stated that his Government’s view on banning exports of natural resources and focus on value addition has found support from Chief Ministers of other mineral rich states.
