Indian steel major JSW Steel sourced 2.53 million tonnes (mnt) of iron ore from the merchant market in Feb’22. The sourcing increased 9% as against 2.31 mnt seen in Jan’22. The figures exclude captive iron ore sourcing. The company’s iron ore sourcing was supported by stable crude steel output which was recorded at 1.58 mnt in Feb’22 against 1.6 mnt in Jan’22.
Purchases from Karnataka e-auctions up 4%
JSW Steel sourced around 1.63 mnt of iron ore from the Karnataka e-auctions in Feb’22, an increase of 4% as compared to 1.57 mnt in Jan’22.
Out of this, NMDC and Vedanta supplied 0.78 mnt and 0.29 mnt in Feb’22, respectively. The company’s iron ore sourcing from NMDC rose 4% m-o-m and that from Vedanta fell significantly by 19%, m-o-m.
Iron ore sourcing from NMDC Chhattisgarh up 17%
JSW Steel’s iron ore sourcing from NMDC’s Chhattisgarh mines rose by 17% in Feb’22 to 0.48 mnt when compared to 0.41 mnt in Jan’22. Out of this, Monnet Ispat and Energy procured 15,400 tonnes (t) of iron ore as against 7,700 t a month ago.
Sourcing from Odisha merchant miners resume
The steelmaker procured 58,332 t of iron ore from Odisha-based merchant miners in Feb’22, after remaining nil in Jan’22.
