Leading steel producer Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) has received consent to operate (CTO) in order to enhance its blast furnace (4,554 m3) production capacity to 4.25 mn t/year from the existing 3.2 mn t/year at its integrated steel facility in Odisha’s Angul, as per SteelMint reports.
The steelmaker has also received CTO for enhancing the production from the sinter plant (490 square metres) at the facility from the existing 4 mn t/year to 5 mn t/year.
Upcoming new capacity expansion and existing unit expansion through new technology is envisaged under consent to establish (CTE) projects as per existing EC mechanism. Existing unit capacity expansion through establishment of new machinery and equipment also falls under CTE, which is followed by consent to operate (CTO).
SteelMint reported earlier that JSPL is doubling its steelmaking capacity at Angul to 12 mn t per annum (from 6 mn t per annum currently), raising its India crude steel capacity by 66% to 15.9 mn t per annum.
JSPL recorded its highest-ever quarterly sales in the second quarter of Jul-Sept’21 (Q2), at 2.13 million tonnes (mn t), registering an increase of 32% compared to 1.61 mn t in Q1. The previous high was 1.93 mn t in Q2FY’21.
The leading steel maker produced 7.51 mn t crude steel in FY ’21, up 19% y-o-y.
