India: Iron Pellet Import Offers rise by USD 5/ MT; buyers uninterested

Pellet import offers to India rise by USD 5 to USD 180/MT CFR.

Iron Pellet importers are facing shortage in availability of the material from overseas market. India Rupee is weak at around 62 against USD. The cost importers will have to incur would be at around INR 11,000/MT and pellets from domestic market would cost around INR 8,600-8,800/MT.

“We are not very much interested in purchasing domestic pellets, but we are forced to buy, looking into the price differences of imported and domestic pellets”, said an importer in Gandhidham to SteelMint.

The demand of domestic pellet of northwest region Indian Steel mills, are currently being fulfilled by Essar and JSPL.

Importers hesitate buying domestic pellet because of its low quality in comparison to imported ones. In Nov & Dec (till 14th Dec), import quantity of Pellets to India is nil.
