Following the Supreme Court’s direction on Iron ore mining suspension for 10 merchant mines operating under second deemed renewal, Steel plants are fighting raw material shortfall to a certain level.
Pellet availability is also inadequate because of low Iron ore fines supply. The merchant mines accounted for about 27% (19.1 MnT) of India’s total Iron ore production in FY14. Looks like situation have started improving, after Odisha government renewed 7 Iron ore mines (out of which 4 belongs to TATA, 2 of SAIL and 1 of OMC).
OMC is offering Iron ore Lumps (10-40 mm, basis 62% Fe) from Kurmitar/Khandadhar Iron ore mines of Koira region in an open sale offer. Material, will be sold only to end-user plant in Odisha and eligible plants (Steel, Sponge iron and Pig iron plants) outside the state, at price of INR 4,250/MT (inclusive of royalty and exclusive of other taxes & duties as applicable).
