India is the world’s 4th largest iron ore producer. According to the recently released data by Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, the country produced 13.6 MnT iron ore in Jul’17 which was 17% down compared to the production of 16.3 MnT in Jun’17.
Iron ore production was down due to the monsoon rains, resulting in water logging and affected logistics during July.
Indian iron ore production was up by 18% Y-o-Y compared to the numbers of Jul’16 where the iron ore production stood at 11.5 MnT.
For the first four months in FY18 the country produced 64.4 MnT iron ore up 7% compared to the quantity of 60.2 MnT in the same period last fiscal.
Odisha’s Iron Ore Output Down in Jul’17
Odisha is India’s largest iron ore producing state which contributes to 50% in country’s ore output. Odisha’s iron ore production was down at 6.22 MnT in Jul’17 against 8.11 MnT in Jun’17. According to provisional data of Odisha govt maintained with SteelMint, the output (comprising of lump, fines & concentrate) was down by 23% in Jul’17.
NMDC’s Iron Ore Production Down by 17% in Jul’17
Iron ore production by India’s single largest iron ore producer-National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) was recorded at 2.41 MnT in Jul’17 against 2.89 MnT in Jun’17. The production by the miner was up by 26% Y-o-Y as well compared to Jul’16.
