As per SteelMint’s analysis, iron ore movement across major producing states of the country was recorded down by 18% M-o-M in Sept’17 to 9.93 MnT in Sept’17 against 12.09 MnT in Aug’17. The figures are compiled on the basis of movements made via railways, trucks, Karnataka and Goa e-auction data and import data as per customs. The figures indicated do not include the captive iron ore movement of SAIL & Tata Steel and movement for exports.
State-wise iron ore movement analysis:
Iron ore dispatches from Odisha fell in Sept’17 – Iron ore dispatches from Odisha has been come down by 7% M-o-M in Sept’17 to 5.89 MnT in Sept’17 compared to 6.32 MnT in Aug’17.
NMDC Iron ore movement from Chhattisgarh increased in Sept’17 – Iron ore movement from Chhattisgarh up 10% M-o-M in Sept’17 to 1.48 MnT in Sept’17 compared to 1.35 MnT in Aug’17. NMDC in total supplied 276 rakes of iron ore from its Bailadila mines (Chhattisgarh) in Sept’17 against 264 rakes in Aug’17. Out of 276 rakes supplied in Sept’17, 27 rakes were supplied to state based units, 233 rakes to outside CG based units and remaining 16 rakes were allocated for export.
Karnataka iron ore e-auction sales dropped significantly in Sept’17 – Iron ore sales via Karnataka e-auctions down by 53% M-o-M in Sept’17 to 1.57 MnT in Sept’17 against 3.37 MnT in Aug’17. NMDC sold 0.83 MnT iron ore in Sept’17 via e-auctions. JSW Steel remained the largest buyer at 0.97 MnT followed by BMM Ispat 0.10 MnT.
Indian iron ore imports increased in Sept’17 – Indian iron ore imports increased by 12% M-o-M in Sept’17 to 0.39 MnT compared to 0.34 MnT in Aug’17. Jindal SAWl was the largest importer in Sep’17 at 0.17 MnT followed by Varsanna Ispat/Sal Steel/ Mono Steel at 0.09 MnT. Apart from these, a vessel was jointly imported by southern India based steel makers – Kamachi, Pulkit Steel and Akshara Industries. KIOCL also imported 55,000 MT iron ore in Sept’17.
Indian Iron ore and Pellet Export movement down in Sept’17 – Indian iron ore & pellet exports moved down by 15% M-o-M in Sept’17 and stood at 1.26 MnT against 1.48 MnT in Aug’17. Indian iron ore exports have also decreased by 19% M-o-M to 0.44 MnT in the month Sept’17 against 0.54 MnT in Aug’17. Bagadiya Brother’s was the largest exporter in Sept’17 followed by Kashvi Power and steel at 0.11 MnT. Indian pellet exports which were recorded down by 12% M-o-M in Sept’17 to 0.82 MnT against to 0.93 MnT in Aug’17. KIOCL was the largest exporter to 0.22 MnT followed by Rashmi Metaliks 0.16 MnT for Sept’17.
