India Imports 4.2 MnT Coking Coal in Dec’15

Coking coal import registered marginal decline. However, Met coke import surged by 34% M-o-M.

India, the 3^rd largest coking coal importer, imported about 4.2 MnT of coking coal in Dec’15, registering a downfall of 1%. Australian coking coal dominated the import as usual and contributed 73% of the total import to the nation.

However, SteelMint assessed that Met coke import surged by about 34% M-o-M.

According to SteelMint’s latest assessment, India imported 0.33 MnT of Met coke in Dec’15 against 0.24 MnT in Nov’15.

JSW Steel, SAIL and Tata Steel together accounted for receiving 50% of the total coking coal import and imported 0.9 MnT, 0.7 MnT and 0.4 MnT respectively in the month. However, Essar Steel was the highest Met coke importer for the month.

Country-wise coking coal import in Nov’15

Australian coking coal dominated the Indian import. The country exported about 3 MnT of coking coal in the month, followed by South Africa at 0.7 MnT in Dec’15.
