The State Government of Odisha has decided to sell its Ferro Chrome plant, which is operated by IDCOL Ferro Chrome & Alloys Limited (IFCAL).
IDCOL Ferro Alloy plant was established in 1969 at Jajpur, Odisha. The plant includes – A submerged Arc Furnace (9 MVA) to produce High Carbon Ferro Chrome with installed capacity 12,000 MT, one open arc furnace (6.5 MVA) to produce Low Carbon Ferro Chrome with capacity 8,000 MT and a rotary kiln 100 TDP. The Corporation has a Chromite mine at Tailangi, spread over an area of 237 hectares, with expected deposits of 6.34 MnT (approx) of Chrome Ore. Also, a captive power plant of 9.5 MW capacity.
The Odisha Government is in the preliminary stage of discussion with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) are exploring options which includes selling the plant to them. A senior official on the matter told SteelMint, “It is a government mandate in accord with the disinvestment policy, and plant operations have been severely hampered by the persistent problem of raw material procurement.”
Earlier in February, IDCOL Ferro Chrome & Alloys had invited tenders for the sale of High Carbon Ferro Chrome. According to industry sources, bids were received to the levels of INR 69,000/MT (USD 1110/MT) Ex-Works.
