Hindustan Aluminium Corporation Ltd (HINDALCO) has recorded highest ever profit after tax of INR 3,851 crore in Q4 FY’22, up 100% compared to the year-ago period.
The EBITDA of the Aluminium India Business was recorded at INR 13,025 crore, up 139% y-o-y, primarily due to favourable macros, higher volumes, better operational efficiencies and improved performance of downstream businesses despite higher input costs.
The Aluminium India Business of Hindalco recorded metal production of 326,000 t as against 316,000 t in the corresponding quarter.
Copper EBITDA and revenue rise up to 20% on-year
Hindalco’s copper facility in India comprises a world-class copper smelter, downstream facilities and a captive jetty. The copper smelter is among the world’s largest custom smelters at a single location. Hindalco’s global footprint spans 50 manufacturing units across 10 countries, as per company reports.
Copper cathode production was at 94,000 t in Q4 FY’22, a decrease of 3.1% y-o-y as against Q4 FY’21, while copper rod production was 69,000 t in Q4, down 9.2% as against Q4 FY’21. Overall copper metal sales were at 105,000 t, a decrease of 1.9% as against Q4 FY’21.
On the other hand, Copper Continuous Cast Rod (CCR) sales in Q4 were up almost 2% y-o-y to 74,000 t as against 73,000 t in Q4 FY’21. EBITDA stood at INR 387 crore in Q4 compared to INR 322 crore in Q4 FY21, up 20% on-year on the back of better operational efficiencies and improved byproduct realisations.
Also the revenue from the copper business was INR 9,787 crore this quarter, up 15% y-o-y, primarily due to higher global prices of copper and higher volumes.

Utkal Refinery fully ramped up to 2.1 mnt; additional 350,000 t expansion via debottlenecking in progress.
The company won the Meenakshi captive coal mine with 12 mnt/year capacity.
Hindalco has retained its position as the world’s most sustainable aluminium company in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices 2021.
