India’s Ministry of Environment & Forests has scheduled an expert appraisal committee (EAC) meeting on 1 June’21 to consider the proposals submitted by three steel companies with regard to setting up plants as well as expanding capacities. The project proposals are as follows:
- Vardhaman Special Steels to expand its Ludhiana based- plant capacity from 0.2 mn t to 0.28 mn t per annum.
- Sarda Energy and Minerals to set up DRI kilns (0.79 mn t/year capacity), induction and electric furnaces and rolling mill at Bemetara in Chhattisgarh.
- Jindal Steel and Power Ltd to expand its 4.5 mn t per annum integrated steel plant in Odisha’s Angul to 25.2 mn t/year.
