Indian government has imposed a provisional anti-dumping duty on ‘Colour coated/pre-painted flat products of alloy or non-alloy steel’ originating in or exported from People’s Republic of China and European Union for a period of six months.
The Anti-Dumping duty imposed is on flat steel products falling under headings 7210,7212, 7225 and 7226 of the 1st schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975.
The goods description on which anti-dumping duty has been imposed is mentioned along side – Pre-painted, painted, colour coated or organic coated flat steels in coils or not in coils whether or not with metallic coated substrate of zinc, aluminium-zinc or any other substrate coating, excluding plates of thickness 6mm or more.
The Anti-Dumping duty rate fixed on PPGI/color coated flat steel product is at USD 849/MT.
Prior to this, on 10 Jan’17 SteelMint reported that Indian govt. may impose anti-dumping on 19 color coated steel products. Union Steel Secretary Aruna Sharma said in an interview that anti-dumping investigation on 19 color coated steel products is already in the process with a view to protect domestic steel players.
India’s PPGI/Color Coated Flat Steel Imports in 2016 – India imported 1.27 MnT PPGI & color coated flat steel products (HS codes 7210 & 7212) during Jan’16-Nov’16. China accounted for largest share of 46% in imports of color coated flat steel to India followed by South Korea and Japan at 24% and 13% respectively.
