India: Govt Extends Provisional Anti Dumping on Flat Products for Two Months

Indian govt. has extended anti-dumping duty on Hot rolled and Cold rolled flat products of alloy or non-alloy steel products for a period of two more months.

Indian government had imposed provisional anti dumping duty on HR and CR coil products in Aug’16 for a period of six months.

Provisional Anti-Dumping duty is imposed on cold rolled flat products of alloy or non alloy steel originating in or exported from China PR, Japan, Korea RP and Ukraine. In case of Hot Rolled products of alloy or non-alloy steel, provisional anti-dumping duty exists on products exported from China PR, Japan, Korea RP, Russia, Brazil and Indonesia.

It is to be noted that recently on 06 Feb’17, Indian government has withdrawn MIP (Minimum import price) on 19 steel products majorly comprising of GP/GC and PPGI. MIP being a short term measure has been withdrawn. The Government is taking permanent measures to counter unfair trade practices as per international norms.

Provisional Anti-dumping duty exists on HRC, CRC, GP/GC and PPGI. On the other hand, Indian govt. has imposed safeguard duty on HR plates and sheets.

Market participants are of the view that provisional anti-dumping duty is likely to become permanent for a period of five years.
