India: Goa govt extends timeline for iron ore mine block auctions

The Goa government has recently put up for auction four iron ore blocks. As per latest updates received, the state government has released the amendments in the auction timelines for all the iron ore mines.

The blocks, three in the north – Bicholim, Sirigao-Mayem and Monte de Sirigao – and one at Kalay in south Goa are the first set of mines that are likely to be followed by auctions at regular intervals, according to senior state government officials.

Response from the industry has been very encouraging as integrated steel players participated in the pre-bid stage as well as miners from within the state. Twenty-four mining companies participated in the pre-bid meeting for the upcoming Goa iron ore mines auctions.

The auction of the four mining blocks drew active response from mining and steel companies, prompting the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG), Goa Govt., to revise the timeline for the auction process so that it could respond to all the queries raised by the prospective bidders. The last date for sale of the tender document has now been extended from 15 November to 22 November.
