On the request of bidders, some of them new to the process, the Goa Directorate of Mines has extended the deadline for tenders and bids for five iron ore mines it is auctioning this month. The five deposits in North Goa include the Surla-Sonshi mine of Vedanta. The last date for sale of tender earlier was Thursday, 23 March. However, it has now been extended to Thursday, 30 March.
Technical bids now can be submitted before 5 April. Accordingly, technical bids will be opened on 6 April and not 28 March. Technically qualified bidders will be announced between 20 and 27 April. Auctions will be conducted between 21 to 28 April, more or less on the same days as scheduled earlier.
Goa’s first set of auctions fetched premiums between 66-111% and saw healthy participation, including from old Goan firms both small and large. However, the auctions failed to generate aggressive bidding from India’s leading steelmakers.
