- Kolhapur prices rise, south, east India see stable prices
- Tight supply triggers upward price pressure
India’s foundry scrap market remained firm w-o-w on 8 September 2026, with prices increasing by INR 1,000/t for both foundry plate and low-Mn CR-busheling in Kolhapur. Meanwhile, prices across Chennai, Coimbatore and Kolkata remained unchanged after the sharp gains recorded in the previous week. Tight scrap availability continued to support seller offers, while buyers largely remained focused on requirement-based purchases.
Regional price commentary
Kolhapur | West India
Kolhapur remained firm, with both assessed grades recording a further increase. Foundry plate (4-8 mm) prices rose by INR 1,000/t w-o-w to INR 41,500/t, while low-Mn CR-busheling prices increased by INR 1,000/t to INR 45,000/t.
Market sources said scrap availability remained limited, keeping seller offers firm. With the market continuing on an upward trend, buyers were compelled to book material against their immediate requirements to avoid further price increases.
Kolkata | East India
Kolkata foundry plate (4-8 mm) prices remained unchanged at INR 41,500/t w-o-w.
The market remained firm with an upward bias, as sellers held prices at last week’s higher levels amid limited scrap availability. Buyers continued to procure material against immediate requirements, while the prevailing tight supply kept upward pressure on prices.
Chennai & Coimbatore | South India
Southern markets remained stable w-o-w, following the sharp price gains recorded last week.
In Coimbatore, foundry plate (8-50 mm) prices remained unchanged at INR 41,300/t, while low-Mn CR-busheling held at INR 45,300/t.
In Chennai, foundry plate (8-50 mm) remained at INR 39,500/t, while low-Mn CR-busheling was unchanged at INR 43,500/t.
Market participants indicated that prices have entered a consolidation phase following the sharp increase in the previous week. However, limited scrap availability and firm secondary steel prices continued to provide support to the market.
Outlook
India’s foundry scrap market is expected to remain firm with a largely stable-to-positive bias in the coming week. After the sharp price increases witnessed in recent weeks, further gains are likely to be more selective. Kolhapur could see continued upward pressure if scrap availability remains tight, while Chennai, Coimbatore and Kolkata are expected to remain largely range-bound. Firm secondary steel prices and limited raw material availability will remain key factors to watch.
