India: Foundry scrap prices remain stable-to-firm w-o-w; Kolhapur prices gain

  • Southern, eastern markets remain stable
  • Tight supply, firm demand lifts Kolhapur prices

India’s foundry scrap market sentiment remained broadly stable-to-firm w-o-w as of 11 August 2026. Demand from the automotive and engineering casting sectors remained steady, while buying activity was largely requirement-based. Most assessed markets recorded no price movement; however, Kolhapur witnessed notable gains, particularly in low Mn CR-busheling, supported by firm buying interest and relatively tight availability of quality scrap.

Regional price commentary

Kolhapur (West India)

Kolhapur market sentiment strengthened w-o-w, with foundry plate (4-8 mm) prices rising by INR 300/t to INR 38,500/t. Meanwhile, Low Mn CR-busheling prices increased by INR 1,000/t to INR 43,000/t. Market participants reported firmer buying interest for quality scrap, while limited availability of suitable material provided additional support to prices.

Kolkata (East India)

Kolkata market sentiment remained stable w-o-w, with foundry plate (4-8 mm) prices unchanged at INR 39,250/t. Buying activity remained largely requirement-based, while sellers maintained existing price levels amid balanced market conditions.

Chennai & Coimbatore (South India)

Southern markets remained stable during the week after the weakness seen in the previous week. In Coimbatore, foundry plate (8-50 mm) prices remained unchanged at INR 37,600/t, while Low Mn CR-busheling prices held at INR 44,000/t. Market activity remained steady, with buyers adopting a cautious procurement approach.

In Chennai, foundry plate (8-50 mm) prices were also unchanged at INR 35,800/t, while Low Mn CR-busheling remained at INR 42,200/t. Demand remained largely need-based, limiting any significant price movement.

Outlook

India’s foundry scrap market is expected to remain stable-to-firm over the coming weeks, supported by steady demand from automotive and engineering casting sectors and balanced availability. Kolhapur prices could retain their upward momentum if demand for quality busheling remains firm and availability stays limited. Meanwhile, prices in Chennai, Coimbatore and Kolkata are likely to remain range-bound, with market participants closely monitoring finished steel prices and buying activity.
