India: Foundry scrap prices decline across key markets as supply improves

  • Improved scrap supply pressures prices across major markets
  • Kolhapur sees sharpest decline; Coimbatore CR-busheling bucks trend

Foundry scrap prices in India declined w-o-w as of 13 October 2026, with Kolhapur, Coimbatore, Chennai and Kolkata witnessing price corrections across most grades. The decline was primarily driven by an improvement in scrap availability, easing the supply constraints that had supported prices in previous weeks.

With material availability improving, sellers faced reduced supply-side pressure, resulting in price corrections across most assessed grades. However, Coimbatore CR-busheling scrap prices increased, bucking the broader market trend.

Regional price commentary

Kolhapur (west India)

Foundry scrap prices declined w-o-w, with foundry plate scrap (4–8 mm) falling by INR 1,600/t to INR 41,000/t, while CR-busheling scrap decreased by INR 600/t to INR 47,000/t.

Kolhapur recorded the sharpest price correction among the assessed markets. Improved scrap availability, combined with price normalisation following the previous week’s increase, weighed on both grades, with plate scrap witnessing a more pronounced decline.

Coimbatore (south India)

Foundry plate scrap (8-50 mm) declined by INR 500/t to INR 43,800/t, while CR-busheling scrap increased by INR 500/t to INR 47,500/t.

Improved scrap availability weighed on plate scrap prices. However, CR-busheling prices moved against the broader trend, recording a marginal increase during the week.

Chennai (south India)

Foundry plate scrap (8-50 mm) declined by INR 500/t to INR 41,800/t, while CR-busheling scrap also decreased by INR 500/t to INR 45,500/t.

The improvement in scrap availability eased supply-side pressure, resulting in price corrections across both assessed grades during the week.

Kolkata (east India)

Foundry plate scrap (4–8 mm) edged down by INR 200/t w-o-w to INR 40,800/t.

Prices recorded a marginal decline as improved scrap availability contributed to the softer market trend. The correction was relatively limited compared with the decline in Kolhapur and the southern markets.

Outlook

Foundry scrap prices may remain under pressure if the improvement in material availability continues. However, further price movements will depend on regional supply conditions, buyer procurement requirements and billet price trends. Coimbatore CR-busheling prices will remain an important exception to the broader downward movement observed during the week.
