India: SAIL’s Contract Expiry likely to make Room for WLA

SAIL is the only primary producer who produces TMT through conversion agents & Wet-Leasing Agents (WLA) too in different zones. Out of its 9 contracts, 5 conversion agent & Wet-Leasing Agent contracts are going to be expired in May-July, 2014.

SAIL, one of the primary steel producers and produced 1.54 MnT TMT in FY14, is looking for TMT conversion agents. Its 5 contracts in various states are about to expire in May-July, 2014.

Durgapur, Rourkela, Ghaziabad & Nagpur based conversion agents’ contracts are valid till May-July, 2014. Currently, the company has floated tender for TMT conversion agents in Odisha & Nagpur. There are possibilities that SAIL may float TMT Wet-Leasing Agents tender for rest of the places too as they are going to be expired very soon.

Eyeing on misuse of SAIL brand through conversion agents in past, the company prefers WLA for future instead of conversion agent. SAIL has discontinued some contract despite of validity.

“The company is hiring only Wet-Leasing Agents this time as a few conversion agents have misused its brand,” said one of the SAIL’s TMT conversion agents.
