India: ERW patra pipe prices surge to 4-month high on rising input costs, improved demand

  • Rising billet, patra prices, tighter scrap supply lift prices
  • Prices to remain firm amid elevated production costs

ERW patra pipe prices (41-60 mm OD) rose w-o-w across key regions in the week ended 21 Aug 2026, supported by higher raw material costs and improved demand. Rising input costs increased production expenses for pipe manufacturers, prompting suppliers to raise offers, while improved buying activity provided additional support to prices.

A similar trend was observed on a d-o-d basis. In Raipur, prices increased by INR 500/t to INR 46,700/t Exw on 21 Aug from INR 46,200/t on 20 Aug. Similarly, prices in Mandi Gobindgarh rose by INR 700/t to INR 49,800/t Exw on 21 Aug from INR 49,100/t Exw a day earlier. Listed prices are Ex-works (Exw) and exclude 18% GST.

Weekly price trends

Raipur: ERW patra pipe prices in Raipur increased by INR 1,400/t w-o-w to INR 46,700/t Exw on 21 August from INR 45,300/t a week earlier. The increase was driven primarily by a sharp rise in raw material prices, which lifted production costs and prompted suppliers to raise offers. The resulting price increase encouraged buyers to step up purchases to secure material, resulting in improved trading activity that provided additional support to prices.

A Raipur-based manufacturer stated, “Prices are expected to remain higher in the coming days, as elevated raw material costs continue to provide cost support, while trading activity has also improved. However, the extent of further price gains could depend on how buyers respond to higher offer levels and whether trading activity remains sustained.”

Mandi Gobindgarh: ERW patra pipe prices in Mandi Gobindgarh surged by INR 1,500/t w-o-w to INR 49,800/t Exw on 21 August from INR 48,300/t a week earlier, led by higher raw material prices, particularly scrap. Limited scrap availability kept procurement costs elevated and enabled suppliers to maintain firmer offers, while improved trading activity also provided further support to prices.

A Mandi-based source stated, “Scrap availability remains tight amid ongoing GST inspections, with multiple trucks carrying scrap reportedly being intercepted and seized in and around Mandi Gobindgarh and Ludhiana. These disruptions to inflows have prompted sellers to prioritise neighbouring markets, further tightening availability in Mandi and supporting prices. Meanwhile, higher sponge iron prices have also contributed to the price increase.”

Outlook

ERW patra pipe prices are expected to remain firm in the coming days, supported by higher raw material costs, tighter scrap availability and improved trading activity across key regions. These factors are likely to keep production costs elevated and provide continued support to prices. However, the extent of further price gains may depend on whether buying activity remains sustained at elevated price levels. Overall, the market is likely to remain firm, with price direction largely dependent on the sustainability of buying activity and movements in raw material costs.
