India: ERW patra pipe prices show mixed trends w-o-w across key regions

  • Improved demand and higher enquiries support market sentiment
  • Supply-side constraints continue to provide downside support to prices

ERW patra pipe prices (41–60 mm OD) showed mixed trends across key regions in the week ended 19 June 2026. While prices in Raipur increased w-o-w, those in Mandi Gobindgarh moved lower.

However, on a d-o-d basis, prices remained stable in both markets. In Raipur, prices stood at INR 45,400/t ex-works (exw) on 19 June, while in Mandi Gobindgarh, prices stood at INR 47,800/t exw. Listed prices are ex-works and exclude 18% GST.

Weekly price trends

Raipur: ERW patra pipe prices in Raipur surged by INR 1,200/t w-o-w to INR 45,400/t exw on 19 June, up from INR 44,200/t a week earlier. Rising raw material costs and higher enquiry levels strengthened market confidence during the week. Increased trading activity compared with the previous week also contributed to firmer market sentiment, providing additional support to prices

A Raipur-based manufacturer indicated, “Material availability remains tight amid extreme heat conditions, which have constrained manufacturing operations, providing downside support to prices. At the same time, demand conditions improved during the week, further contributing to the recent upward movement in prices.”

Another regional source stated, “The recent industrial power tariff hike of INR 0.40/kWh (40 paise/unit), announced by the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission, effective from 1 July 2026, is expected to increase production costs. As a result, mills may raise offers, with the impact on costs estimated at around INR 400-500/t from July onwards.”

Consequently, producers may seek to increase offers in July to offset rising costs. However, the sustainability of any price hikes will depend on downstream demand and procurement activity across key consuming sectors.

Mandi Gobindgarh: ERW patra pipe prices in Mandi Gobindgarh edged down by INR 200/t w-o-w to INR 47,800/t exw on 19 June, from INR 48,000/t a week earlier.

A Mandi Gobindgarh-based source noted, “Tight scrap availability continues to restrict production levels, resulting in limited pipe availability in certain sizes. Although demand improved marginally during the week, the source expects that a formal agreement between Iran and the US could gradually ease supply-side constraints, bringing currently elevated billet-to-HR strip conversion rates back towards normal levels. As a result, prices may face downward pressure if demand does not remain sustainable in the coming weeks.”

Another regional source noted, “Prices have been moving within a range of around +/- INR 200-300/t over the past 15 days. Given current market conditions, prices are expected to remain largely stable in the coming days. Although demand improved during the week, it has yet to translate into sustained momentum, limiting any significant upside, while supply-side constraints continue to support prices.”

Raw material prices

HR strip (patra): HR strip (patra) prices in Raipur increased by INR 900/t w-o-w to INR 44,500/t exw on 19 June from INR 43,600/t exw on 12 June. In contrast, patra prices in Mandi Gobindgarh inched down by INR 200/t w-o-w to INR 46,800/t exw from INR 47,000/t a week earlier.

Billet: Billet prices in Raipur rose by INR 200/t w-o-w to INR 38,950/t exw on 19 June from INR 38,750/t a week earlier. In contrast, billet prices in Mandi Gobindgarh remained stable w-o-w at around INR 42,900/t DAP on 19 June.

Outlook

ERW patra pipe prices are expected to remain largely stable in the coming days as the recent improvement in enquiries and trading activity continues to support market sentiment, though this momentum remains insufficient to drive sustained price gains amid softer trading towards the end of the week. Meanwhile, firm raw material costs and ongoing supply-side constraints are likely to keep production costs elevated, supporting prices and limiting any significant downside.
