India: ERW patra pipe prices rise w-o-w on improved demand conditions

  • Rising production costs support the upward trend in prices
  • Cautious buying observed towards the weekend may limit further sharp gains

ERW patra pipe prices (41-60 mm OD) rose w-o-w on 29 May 2026 in both Raipur and Mandi Gobindgarh, supported by improved demand conditions and higher raw material prices.

On a d-o-d basis as well, prices edged up in both markets. In Raipur, prices increased by INR 100/t d-o-d to INR 44,300/t ex-works (exw) on 29 May from INR 44,200/t on 28 May. Similarly, prices in Mandi Gobindgarh moved up by INR 200/t d-o-d to INR 47,600/t exw on 29 May from INR 47,400/t a day earlier. Listed prices are ex-works and exclude 18% GST.

Weekly price trends

Raipur: ERW patra pipe prices in Raipur increased by INR 600/t w-o-w to INR 44,300/t exw on 29 May, compared with INR 43,700/t on 22 May. Overall demand improved gradually during the week, supported by rising raw material prices and increased market enquiries. Trading activity also strengthened compared with the previous week, contributing to firmer market sentiment and providing additional support to prices.

However, buying interest showed signs of moderation towards the latter part of the week, with market participants adopting a cautious stance following the initial uptick in market activity. Reflecting this trend, a Raipur-based source indicated that, “prices are expected to remain largely stable in the coming days, as the recent improvement in trading activity has yet to translate into sustained demand momentum, with procurement activity slowing towards the end of the week.”

Mandi Gobindgarh: ERW patra pipe prices in Mandi Gobindgarh surged by INR 2,800/t w-o-w to INR 47,600/t exw on 29 May, compared with INR 44,800/t a week ago. The increase was primarily supported by improved domestic demand, with buying interest and trading activity recording a gradual uptick during the week.

A Mandi-based source indicated that, “higher production costs, driven by rising raw material prices, tighter labour conditions, and constrained scrap supply, supported the increase in finished pipe prices, which in turn strengthened overall market sentiment.”

Another regional source noted that, “the conversion parity from billet to HR strip (patra) has increased by around INR 1,000/t over the past week, reaching INR 2,500-3,000/t from INR 1,500-2,000/t previously. The rise has been attributed to elevated production costs, including higher raw material and operational expenses, along with improved market conditions.”

Raw material prices

HR strip (patra): HR strip (patra) prices in Raipur rose by INR 500/t w-o-w to INR 43,700/t exw on 29 May from INR 43,200/t exw on 22 May. Similarly, patra prices in Mandi Gobindgarh increased by INR 2,800/t w-o-w to INR 46,600/t exw from INR 43,800/t a week earlier.

Billet: Billet prices in Raipur increased by INR 500/t w-o-w to INR 39,300/t exw on 29 May compared with INR 38,800/t the previous week. Meanwhile, billet prices in Mandi Gobindgarh stood at around INR 43,500/t DAP, up by INR 1,000/t w-o-w from INR 42,500/t on 22 May.

Outlook

ERW patra pipe prices are likely to remain largely stable in the coming days, as the recent improvement in demand has yet to translate into sustained market momentum. While stronger buying activity supported prices during the week, procurement showed signs of moderation towards the latter part, reflecting a cautious approach among market participants. Elevated raw material costs, coupled with tight labour and scrap availability, are expected to provide underlying support to prices. However, in the absence of a sustained recovery in demand, the scope for significant upward movement remains limited, with overall market sentiment likely to remain steady.
