India: ERW patra pipe prices hit a six-month high amid volatile raw material costs

  • Raw material prices show mixed trends w-o-w
  • Market sentiment remains cautious amid sharp fluctuations

Indian ERW patra pipe prices climbed to a six-month high during the week ended 13 February in both Raipur and Mandi Gobindgarh, supported by firm gains in key raw materials such as HR strip (patra) and billet. Rising input costs encouraged manufacturers to maintain elevated offer levels.

However, sharp day-to-day price volatility and uncertainty over the sustainability of the price rise kept market sentiment cautious. Buying activity remained largely restricted to immediate, need-based purchases, as buyers continued to adopt a wait-and-watch approach amid unclear price direction.

Toward the end of the week, ERW patra pipe prices (41-60 OD) showed mixed trends across regions. Prices in Raipur rose on a weekly basis, while Mandi Gobindgarh prices eased slightly, reflecting divergent movements in raw material costs.

On a d-o-d basis priced dropped, with Raipur prices falling by INR 100/t to INR 44,100/t exw on 13 February from INR 44,200/t on 12 February and Mandi Gobindgarh prices declining by INR 400/t to INR 47,000/t exw, compared with INR 47,400/t exw a day earlier. Listed prices are ex-works (exw) and exclude 18% GST.
